Philippine Independence Day
Philippine Independence Day is one of the most important celebrations in the country since the Pearl of the Orient Seas has been freed after more than 300 years of Spanish oppression. Since 1962, the 12th of June has been observed as Philippine Independence Day. The ceremony was originally scheduled for July 4, but President Diosdado Macapagal moved it to June 12 to honor Emilio Aguinaldo's declaration of independence from the Spaniards. This day is more than just a holiday; it is a day on which Filipinos commemorate the bravery and sacrifices of warriors and heroes who battled for our homeland. On this day, we also honor the sacrifices made by front-line workers and critical workers to assist our country in times of need.
The Philippine Independence Day is celebrated from May 28 to June 12, and all government buildings, houses, and public spaces are encouraged to fly the country's flag. The country starts the celebration by flying the national flag over numerous historical sites across the country. At 7 a.m., the President, Vice President, and other members of the government, along with the Armed Forces and the general public, sing the national song Lupang Hinirang while raising the national flag in Rizal Park or any other national historical landmark. We may have varied ways of expressing our love for the Philippines, but let us value even the small gestures we make to demonstrate how much we care for our nation. Being a law abiding citizen or supporting the country in your own small manner is already an act of displaying your love, as is keeping our surroundings clean and orderly.
May we not lose sight of the holiday's historical significance while we enjoy it. Before we gained our independence, our heroes sacrificed their abilities and intellect, putting their lives in danger. May we, as Filipino citizens, learn from them. These heroic acts should be appreciated as much as we appreciate the endowment of sovereignty.
