Kannawidan Festival Celebration 2021

Unlike previous years when the Kannawidan Festival is being celebrated for at least a month, this year, it only ran for a week starting Friday, January 29 until February 5. The residents of Ilocos Sur province had a simpler celebration of this year's annual Kannawidan Ylocos Festival. To prevent the spread of COVID-19, the provincial government, through its provincial tourism office, has declared strict guidelines to be followed during the festival.

Held in the Heritage City of Vigan, the festival opened at the Kannawidan Grounds in Barangay Tamag with the ribbon cutting of the Trade and Food Fair, where the one-town-one-product of the province's towns and cities was displayed. It was followed by the Holy Mass concelebrated at Saint Paul Cathedral in this city led by government workers from national and local offices, public officials and members of non-government-organizations. The Trade and Food Fair provides additional income to Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises and owners of local food stalls, furniture shops, gifts/decors and housewares including plant sellers. They also hosted a lockdown pageant called Saniata ti Ylocos Sur 2021, where no audience is allowed, aside from the judges and the production team.

Despite of the covid-19 pandemic, we still celebrated this festival cheerfully and with a smile on our lips. Even if we celebrated simpler the Kannawidan Ylocos Festival this year, we shouldn't forget the reason why we are celebrating it. I'm still hoping that this pandemic will end soon.
