Celebration Amidst the COVID 19 Pandemic
Vigan City Fiesta is celebrated during the feast day of the conversion of St. Paul the Apostle, St. Paul is Vigan City’s patron saint, every January 25. The celebration usually lasts for several days. Colorful and grand, this fiesta express the joyful and vibrant lifestyle that the Bigueños exemplify every day. Locals and tourists gather to experience and see the street dancing, carnivals, food fairs, and arts and crafts. But because of the pandemic brought by covid-19 we can't do the things that we used to do.
In the previous years, Bigueños from different places usually return to their hometown to join their friends and families in the celebration of Vigan City Fiesta. We should enjoying the cultural shows, parades and street dancing prepared by the local government with the help of the local industries and communities but, because of covid-19 we can't. There’s no parade nor street dancing happened because the local government limits the number of people in one place to avoid rapidly spreading the virus, our safety is their number one priority. We can't celebrate the fiesta like we used to do. We can't go out without the fear of getting infected by the virus. The particular reason for this circumstances is the covid-19 pandemic. Our excitement when January comes is gone. I am really sad that we are experiencing this kind of problem.
To sum up everything, covid-19 created a big impact not only in celebrating the Vigan City Fiesta but in everything that we used to do. Even if we can't celebrate it in the way we have in the past, we should hold onto the meaning of this celebration. Hopefully, this pandemic will end soon.
I also hope that this pandemic will come to an end soon so that we can now do the things that we are used to do. But I still hope that you enjoyed the celebration this year even if it its just virtually. Nice blog!
ReplyDeleteAltough we cannot celebrate like last year's festival, it is still better to celebrate this way for our health and safety. I hope that you had great time celebrating even with this pandemic. Great blog!
